The F it Stage in Life
A few months ago, I was invited to a friend’s brother’s 21st birthday celebration. Initially when I got the invite I was excited because this is a milestone birthday for most people. I would be able to have a glimpse of my early 20s. But that journey down memory lane made my excitement quickly disappear. I started to get flashbacks of my own 21st birthday. It felt like the ghost of 21st birthdays past. The one lesson I learned from that night is that 21st birthdays are unpredictable– and I do not think my knee can hold up. Let’s have a moment of realness. I am in my late 20s…

Dating in a Social Media World
Today, we live in the age of social media. It is the first place we turn to learn most major news and community announcements. I have learned more about the political climate from Instagram than CNN and I have received more life updates from Facebook than from phone calls with friends. When I first started dating my fiancé, we had to have the “social media” conversation. We had to determine if we wanted to follow each other, tag each other, or make it Facebook “official.” This conversation took me back to the days of hoping to land in someone’s MySpace Top 8. I know I am not the only person…

Xi’an Cuisine
Hi! I’m Liang, also known as @hotcheetomama on the ‘gram. You know that saying, “food is life”? Well, it literally is for me! I love food so much, I made a living out of it. Previously, I worked as a coffee scientist, and recently switched to the meat science industry. When I’m not working on food projects, you can find me in the kitchen, whipping up some multicultural dishes, or exploring the delectable wonders within Chicago. Being a Bridgeport resident, I will always support restaurants on the South Side. There’s something incredibly enchanting about leaving the skyscrapers in the heart of downtown and venturing past the “Roosevelt” stop on the…

Spring 2018 is Cancelled
Unfortunately, I must be the first to say this, “Spring 2018 is officially cancelled.” As we come to the end of an eight month winter, I am bypassing Spring and going straight to Summer. I have packed all of my Winter clothes away and fully embraced my early Summer. I have accepted that I may deal with some cold nights and potentially catch a cold, but, you know, you only live once. As my intake of cocktails and Drake (by the way, Nice for What is my Summer jam) start to increase, so does the pressures of showcasing the perfect beach bawdy. I know they say Summer bodies…

SteakBar
Let’s get real. We all have that one place that makes us completely forget about whatever diet we are currently on and we end up eating 10,000 calories before we even realize what happened. Trust me when I say that Steakbar in Old Town is that place. I was introduced to SteakBar for a friend’s birthday and every since then I’ve told anyone that will listen about the place. From the moment you walk in you’re greeted by friendly staff with an optional coat check. The restaurant itself is beautiful but the way they lay the food out throughout the restaurant is overwhelmingly magnificent. I truly felt like a kid…
